Former VGMA artiste of the year – Stonebwoy has made a very profound statement at the just ended Ghana Music Awards UK saying that he focuses on producing good songs and not Hit songs.

The “People Dey” hit maker made this statement when he mounted the stage to receive his award for winning reggae Dancehall song of the year with his “Go higher” smash hit.

One would say the Dancehall warrior was taking a swipe at someone with that statement he made. But whoever it was he was taking a swipe at, he did not mention. Stonebwoy in addition to winning the award for reggae Dancehall song of the year, also took home the award for Album of the year with his “Necessary Evil” album.

He later took to the stage to dish out some energy-filled performance to a play back. Though Stonebwoy is noted lately for live performances, it was unclear what made him perform to playback when there was actually a live band set up which he could have used.

The night went down well with patrons having a blast. Others who also won awards on the night include Bisa Kdei, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Sonie Badu, Fuse ODG, SP Kofi Sarpong, EL, Mr. Eazy, Kofi Kinaata among others.

Ghana Music Awards UK 2016 was aired live on Pluzz 89.9 FM in Ghana.

Dancehall champion – Shatta Wale was adjudged Artiste of the year at the just ended Ghana Music Awards UK which was put together by Alordia Promotions and West Coast UK.

The night which saw performances from Ghanaian super stars like Stonebwoy, Samini, Gyedu Blay Ambuley among others, brought a lot of joy and smiles on the faces of Ghanaian music lovers in the UK.

Aside from winning the artiste of the year, Shatta Wale also won Music producer of the year, Dancehall artiste of the year and most popular song of the year. Even though he wasn’t present at the venue to receive his awards, he made it a point to send acceptance video, which was played anytime he won an award. Other winners on the night include, Stonebwoy who won 2 awards – Reggae Dancehall song of the year and Album of the year.

Sonie Badu – UK based Gospel song and UK Based Gospel artiste of the year.

Mr Eazy – Best Video of the year and Afrobeats artiste of the year.

S.P Kofi Sarpong – Gospel Artiste and Gospel Song of the year and lastly for the big winners on the night, Bisa Kdei – Highlife song and Highlife artiste of the year.

Sarkodie and EL took home best rapper of the year and best hiplife song of the year respectively.

The maiden edition of Ghana music award UK was Hosted by Kwaku Owusu Frimpong of Rainbow radio and Vox Africa, Evelyn Asante of ABN radio and TV, Confidence Haugen and DJ Abrantie. Pluzz 89.9 FM carried it live in Ghana.

Highlife musician, Okyeame Kwame, says he separated from fellow musician; Okyeame Quophi, because he was broke after their return from the United States.

According to him, the situation upon their return from the United States in an attempt to seek greener pastures, left him with no choice than to venture into music again after taking a break.

This he said, didn’t go down with his music partner, Okyeame Quophi, who wanted them to build their talent gradually before returning to music. Okyeame Kwame made this known in an interview on Beta Malt “On the Go” (taxi edition), when he was asked by a fan the reason for the split.

“I was broke. We started music in 97; Kofi and I. We did music for a while and went to live in America…When we came back in 2003, we were broke. Whenever I told kofi, let’s go for a performance, Kofi said no, people will take us cheaply, let’s wait to build our artistry…”

Okyeame Kwame together with Okyeame Quophi formed the music group “Akyeame ” which took hiplife music by storm when they collaborated in the 90’s with some hit tracks until the duo decided to go their separate ways.

There have been a lot of rumors surrounding their split, but Okyeame Kwame opened up on the reason on this week’s episode of Beta Malt OTG with Jessica Opare Saforo.

“On the Go” with Beta Malt, is a 15 minute fun- packed, fascinating and inspirational TV program which is purely interactive and presents the opportunity for people to share the story of their hustle in the most fun-loving way, with the reward of nourishment to keep the zeal.

The “Serwaa Akoto” hit maker took to his Facebook wall to tell Ghanaians about the Prophecy.

Below is his full statement:

“I saw a Sunyani-bound domestic plane struggling to take off at the Accra airport resulting in a near crash. It finally takes off but landing in Sunyani is equally frightening. Nevertheless, it lands amidst fear and panick. No casualties! The pilot flying this particular plane is flying it for the very first time and his revealed name is Kotei. Is there any domestic airline with a pilot by that name? God reveals to redeem. Pray for Sunyani and for a generally safe, domestic flying from now till end of December. To Jah be the glory….!”.
